What is a Misfit?
I knew I didn't fit in when my boss told me I was wearing a "career-limiting tie." At first I thought he was joking but soon I realized he was dead serious. In fact, the tie limited my career as much as a hangman's noose limits a victim's ability to breathe.
I was a square peg in a round hole. Ten years ago, employers who wanted me to fit into this hole were happy to use a sledge hammer to make me fit in. I was miserable.
Meet a misfit friend of mine.
Meet a Misfit
Lynn was a successful executive assistant to a top executive in the entertainment business. She was extremely organized, very good with details and a valued asset to her boss. But she was miserable underneath her perfect corporate shell. She cried her way through Sundays before painting on her smile on Mondays. By Wednesday the makeup was getting thicker and her unhappiness deeper. It was only when Friday came around that she could smile without the help of beauty products.
Lynn didn't fit in and was petrified that she was going to be found out. She was scared that someone would discover that she wasn't supposed to be in that successful secretary's space. She wanted to be herself but she couldn't take the risk of being fired.
She wanted to follow her passion and live a fulfilling work-life, but she just didn't know how. She was stuck with being a misfit.
Was. Now she’s happy.
