Career Assessment Warnings

Career assessment tests are a lot of fun to take and are regarded very highly by many companies as well as individuals. You enter data and information about yourself such as personal likes and dislikes, job preferences, etc. and let the test determine which career you'd be best suited at based on your answers. Sounds simple, right? Career assessment tests are very simple to take but there are some warnings and things you should be aware of before taking these tests or taking the results too seriously.

Be Selective When Taking A Career Assessment Test

If you're deciding to take a career assessment test, check them out carefully before taking them. There are many that can be found online so be sure you take one from a site that is reputable and legitimate. Also, before you sign up for the test, be sure you read all the fine print as some of these companies may sell your information to a third party.

Another thing to keep in mind is that before you rush out and quit your current job because of your test results, check out the particular job fields the test determines you'd be qualified for. The best job in the world isn't going to help you if you'll have to move 3,000 miles to find the job! Keep in mind also that a career assessment test you took in high school may not accurately describe what your true interests and aptitudes are today as we all change as we get older.

Are Career Assessment Tests Always Accurate?

You've probably heard the old saying that a computer is only as accurate as the person entering the information. This has never been more true than with career assessment tests. The results can be wrong! This is not to say that they should not be relied on or trusted but their results are based on the answers they were given to certain questions. While the idea of helping a dying person appeals to the good nature and compassion in all of us, if you check that you'd like to do that when, in reality, sick people make you nervous, the test may kick out results that you would be happy working in a nursing home or hospital with critically ill patients.

When giving your answers, don't spend too much time thinking about them but be truthful with your answers. Don't answer based on what you think you should enjoy to make you a better person but answer based what you do enjoy. If you want accurate results, you need to give accurate answers.

Good Mental Health is a Must

Our feelings change from day to day, based on what's going on in your life or how you may be feeling either physically or emotionally. If you're planning on taking a career assessment test, make sure you're feeling your best. If you've had some serious problem in your life recently, postpone taking the test until you're feeling your best and can concentrate 100% on the test so you'll get the best and most accurate results.
